Course Description: This is a highly customized course designed for those who have previously taken a ControlLogix Level 1 or Level 2 course. The purpose of this course is to refresh the participants, and answer any questions they may have encountered while working with equipment controlled by the ControlLogix processor. Students who attend this class will be able to troubleshoot problems in existing projects, and utilize new features that have been added to RSLogix 5000 software. During the second half of this course, we will be spending time with site-specific instructions and hardware.
Prerequisites: Students who attend this course must have successfully completed a previous ControlLogix course.
Course Objectives:
  • To Review the ControlLogix Level 1 course
  • To Discuss new features in later versions of RSLogix 5000 software
  • To answer questions students have encountered
  • To cover site-specific hardware and instructions
  • Outline:

    First Half of Course (Review)

    • Introduction and Pre-Test
    • Review Hardware
      • Input and Output modules
      • Chassis and Power Supply
      • Processor
    • Communications
      • DF1 (Serial Communication)
      • Ethernet (TCP, and Ethernet/IP)
      • RSLinx (Communication Server)
    • Discuss new features that have been added in later versions of RSLogix 5000 Software
    • I/O Configuration
      • Local I/O
      • Remote I/O (using site network type)
    • Basic Instructions, Timers, and Counters

    Second Half of Course (site specific)

    • Approach the site ControlLogix Project
    • Use Controller properties to visualize the local chassis
    • Use I/O Configuration to determine what modules are located in the Local Chassis
      • Locate Controller tags for I/O modules in the Local Chassis
      • Trace Controller Tags through the site project
    • Determine what Remote Chassis are in the site project.
      • Locate controller tags for I/O modules in Remote Chassis
      • Trace the Controller tags for remote chassis through the program to determine how they are used in the project.
    • Discuss other programming languages used in your plant projects (briefly)
    • Troubleshooting Review and Practice
    • Post-Test
